September

The past couple of years, September has felt more like August - the heat and humidity of a Midwestern August hanging on much too long.

This year, September surprised me. Labor Day weekend was beautiful and - boom! - it was fall. Before I was even ready for it.

Not that I'm complaining. I love fall weather! Cool mornings, warm mid-days, t-shirts and sweaters. This September has been particularly beautiful - sunny day following sunny day with the autumn crisp in the air.

Ahhh...

The kids are anxiously awaiting for the trees to lose their leaves. They love to make 'leaf houses' and 'leaf towns' and play outside all afternoon.

It's lovely for me too.

In honor of September:

September
Helen Hunt Jackson

The goldenrod is yellow;
The corn is turning brown;
The trees in the apple orchards
With fruit are bending down.

The gentian's bluest fringes
Are curling in the sun;
In dusty pods the milkweed
Its hidden silk has spun.

The sedges flaunt their harvest
In every meadow nook;
And asters by the brook-side
Make asters in the brook.

From dewy lanes at morning
The grapes' sweet odors rise;
At noon the roads all flutter
With yellow butterflies.

By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer's best of weather,
And autumn's best of cheer.

It really has been a lovely September. A gentle slipping into autumn and full of more beautiful days ahead. As much as I dread the winter, I cannot help but love the cooler mornings and evenings; the smell of the air; and the heat from the sun that is not quite so, well, hot. Thank you for your poem.

A good September poem. I have been really enjoying it, too. The kids made mobiles today and now we have pinecones and leaves hanging from our chandelier.

I like Poe too. Don't fully understand his poems, but have enjoyed his stories for quite a while.

Pretty pictures, Michelle! And I really like that September poem; it was a perfect choice. : ) I've been getting some really great sleep lately, thanks to these cool autumn evenings, and for that I am very grateful!
